for Division title to Dakota by RICK DESOTELL
Senior forward Katie Becker finished with a game-high 22 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals, but it wasn't enough as the Romeo High Lady Bulldogs fell in the battle for the MAC White Division championship 61-51 Thursday, Feb. 25, at Dakota.Observer Sports Writer It was a tight game all the way until the Cougars (7-3 MAC White) outscored Romeo 22-12 in the fourth quarter. Dakota led 11-6 after one quarter and 25-23 at halftime before the Bulldogs (6-4 White) fought back and tied it at 39-39 heading into the fourth. Romeo 44, Utica 40: It took awhile but the Bulldogs and Chiefs finally got to play each other on Tuesday, Feb. 23, and, as expected, it was a doozy, with Romeo nipping Utica in the see-saw affair. With the win, the Bulldogs set up a showdown for the MAC White title with Dakota Thursday at Dakota. Romeo won 38-35 the last time the two teams met. Utica led early, grabbing a 12-10 lead after one quarter, with the Bulldogs fighting back to tie it at halftime, 20-20. Romeo outscored Utica, 15-13, in the third quarter to take a 35-33 lead after three and won the game in the fourth outscoring the Chieftains, 9-7. McIntyre scored five points, all in the fourth quarter, including a huge 3-pointer with a little over four minutes remaining "She always works her tail off,'' Coach Connie Hernden said of McIntyre. "She's solid; she does everything well. If she has a fault, it's that she'll try too hard sometimes. That was a huge shot she hit to put us up by three.'' Flinn led Romeo with 19 points and 11 big rebounds, followed by Becker who finished with nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Yops had six points and six rebounds. Payne added two points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals and Szajna had one point to round out the scoring, Utica was led by Eryn Maday with 17 points.
