JV teams loss to Ike
means sharing title

The Romeo High School junior varsity boys' basketball team played Eisenhower on Friday, Feb. 26.
It was Romeo's chance to become the division champs if they won. A loss meant Romeo would share the title with the Eisenhower Eagles.
Romeo lost by just two points, 54-52.
Ellis Weeks, Aaron Mabey, Dalton Binkowski, Nolan Kaliszewski and Max Phillips started for the Bulldogs. Mabey came out strong and won the tap. The Romeo boys dominated the first and second quarters. At the end of the first half, Romeo was ahead, 27-21.
The game headed in a new direction when both teams arrived back on the court for the third quarter. Eisenhower came out with intensity and soon put out Romeo's fire. The Eagles had managed to cut the lead down to three points with eight minutes left in regulation. In the fourth quarter, Ike succeeded in taking the lead.
With about three minutes left in the game, Weeks had a great play. He attained an offensive rebound, scored the easy layup and forced an Eagle to foul. At the line, Weeks was successful and tied the game at 47. The Eagles answered back by adding two. Ike then stole the ball and converted it into two-pointers. With a couple minutes to play, Kaliszewski forced a foul and found himself at the stripe. Shooting one-and-one, Kaliszewski made the first and missed the second. Ike swooped the rebound, but the Bulldogs defense caused him to commit traveling.
With 6.1 seconds left in the game, Romeo was down by two points. They set up a play to win the game, but could not execute.
Weeks scored 12 points, Ben Rowley contributed 10 points and Binkowski had nine. Binkowski was also able to retrieve six offensive rebounds and five defensive rebounds. Kaliszewski had eight points and Phillips added six. Jacob Mulrenin came off the bench, and did his part by scoring five. Buddy Becker also had two important points to add.
The team beat L'Anse Creuse North on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Leading in scoring was Weeks with 16 points, followed by Phillips with 15 and Kaliszewski with 12. Binkowski had four points and Rowley added four points and a game high four assists.
On Friday, Feb. 19, the Bulldogs played Chippewa Valley. After a previous loss to Chippewa, the Bulldogs won, 75-47.
